We are often asked, “Does Medicaid cover incontinence supplies?” The short answer is, yes. Most Medicaid plans do cover incontinence supplies for individuals living at home, in assisted living facilities, or in a group home setting. While many plans will cover a variety of necessary incontinence supplies, it’s important to note that Medicaid coverage and the products available does vary by state.
Unfortunately, some programs limit the coverage of incontinence products or do not cover them at all. For example, in Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana, incontinence supplies are not covered by Medicaid for people under the age of 4 or over the age of 20. These states only cover items for pediatric patients (ages 4-20) with a medical necessity. If these patients have a Medicaid plan that is in-network with ActivStyle, we will work with them to get them the supplies they need covered through their insurance plan.
Why Aren’t Products Covered for Children Under 4 Years Old?
For children under 4 years old, having incontinence is rare because they usually are not fully potty trained at this age. It’s a natural part of development and not a medical necessity. Therefore, parents or guardians of these children must private pay for incontinence supplies.
What About Patients Who are Over 20 Years Old in FL, GA & LA?
In Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana, incontinence supplies are not covered for patients over the age of 20. Individuals who are over the age of 20 have few options other than to private pay for the supplies needed.
